QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
LENGTH: 40CM
The single long section of bamboo root is naturalistically carved in openwork with two twisted vines of eight lingzhis forming the handle of the sceptre below a larger lingzhi forming the head, alluding to the rebus 九如 jiu ru, a popular blessing for longevity. Nodes of the bamboo root decorate the face of the ruyi and continue down to the back of the handle. The sceptre is deeply patinated to a dark brown colour.
